BETTER THAN YORK PEPPERMINT PATTIES – A VEGAN RECIPE RECOMMENDATION
This post is going to be a real TREAT!
I love making these peppermint patties! Before going vegan, I really enjoyed biting into a York patty, but of course… those candies have many ingredients that are not aligned with my values. So one day, I was perusing my favorite food blog and found these Vegan Peppermint Patties and couldn’t wait to give these a go! *EEEEEK*
The cool thing about this recipe is it’s less than a handful of ingredients. (Yuuup, A HANDful). Most of favorite recipes are created for simple eating and uncomplicated cooking, and this sure does meet that need!
If you didn’t know about Sam’s blog, It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken, then you have TWO treats within this post. Sam’s blog is one of my GO-TO vegan blogs for delicious and approachable meals to make at home.
I have made several of her recipes, many you’ll come to come to see on Oh Hello Vegan. So check out her blog for other fantastic recipes, great videos and a very cute pup too!
I make these year round, but they are especially rich around the holidays.
Ohhh, and the smell of peppermint is a kitchen favorite!
What I like about making these vegan peppermint patties:
- They are simple, delicious and surprisingly quick to make
- One batch makes a lot of the chocolaty and pepperminty patties
(warning: they will likely last about one day before being devoured!) - Your family and friends will want these as a holiday treat every year
- No baking required! Seriously, the freezer does all the work

These are great to make for holiday gifts, work and family potlucks, or anytime that ends in “day“. 😉
Plus, people won’t know or even miss the dairy in them. Perks of compassionate cooking!
So, let’s get into it, shall we?
Allow about 45 minutes for this recipe, but most of that time is for the freezer to do it’s thing. Not bad!
First you make the filling, like so:
Nice! You’ve combined and created that ball of filling.
Next, shape your patties to the size of your liking. You can make them into minis or mold them as full size peppermint patties. Do you!
Mine are about an inch or so, some a little less. I usually get around 18-24 mints.
Place your mini mints onto your silicone mat or a sheet of parchment paper, and then pop them in the freezer for a bit.
See, I told you these were simple to make!
I like to use these reusable non-stick baking mats for nearly everything I bake (or freeze in my kitchen), these make it so I hardly use or throw away parchment paper.
Easy to clean up, and I use them for cookies, mints, fries, burgers, roasted veggies and more. Definitely one of my most used kitchen items!
Next, get your chocolate melted for coating the mint rounds.
I heated up some semi sweet chocolate chips. I like these brands of chocolate chips: Enjoy Life and Simple Truth.
Once your vegan peppermint patties have been frozen for a bit, you’ll dip them into the chocolate so they’re well coated. Then allow them to set again in the freezer for about 20 minutes (or however long you can wait).
There you have it! An easy, simple, and irresistible treat for yourself or to share with others this holiday season or to make year round.
Did you make these vegan peppermint patties? What do you think of them!?
